Rushmere and Diamonds 0 Playford 1
Although they struggled to put the game to bed, Playford's second cleansheet in a row secures three valuable points.
Rushmere started the game with nine men before two more arrived within the first fifteen minutes to give them a full compliment. Despite that Byron Stretton capitalised on a defensive error and played in Sean Hanley who fired in a low drive from the edge of the box.
Five minutes later and Playford had a chance to double their advantage. Max Pryke was played in down the right, he made progree into the area before squaring across the penalty area, Todd Bartlett got ahead of the goalkeeper as he chased the cross and was brought down for a penalty. Stretton stepped up but unfortunately fired high right.
Byron was again unlucky when George Godbold made ground around the right-back a passed to Stretton in the area but he could not direct the ball goalward.
Playford had a number of corners and long range efforts during the remainder of the half but nothing that really troubled Diamonds.
The second half was relatively uneventful. Playford pushed for another goal to try and make the game safe and Diamonds pushed for the equaliser. Miles Berry pulled off a couple of important saves on the rare occasions that the Playford back three of Moye, Ewer and Larkins were beaten. In fact the three defenders had probably the most influence on the result.
Playford had a good shout for a penalty turned down late in the game when a Diamonds defender rolled on the ball and used his hands to keep it away from Daryl Francis.
